A man yesterday denied attempting to seriously injure his partner and threatening to hit her with the stand of a fan last month.

Fredrick Muscat, a 28-year-old furniture sprayer from Ħamrun, also pleaded innocent to injuring Sharon Bugeja at 3.30 p.m. on March 16.

Ms Bugeja reported the incident a month and four days after it had allegedly occurred.

Police Inspector Frankie Sammut told Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani that Ms Bugeja filed the police report last Friday, following another argument with her boyfriend.

Despite the lapse, he arrested Mr Muscat and charged him with slightly injuring Ms Bugeja, holding her against her will and threatening to kill her in Marsascala.

Defence lawyer Johnathan Abela told the court his client and Ms Bugeja, who used to live together, have had long-standing problems with frequent arguments, especially over her job as a cleaner.

Magistrate Padovani granted Mr Muscat bail against a €5,000 personal guarantee. She also ordered Mr Muscat, who went back to live with his parents in Ħamrun, to stay away from Ms Bugeja.
