Golf: Dustin Johnson started his reign as world number one in the best possible way by winning the WGC-Mexico Championship in Mexico City on Sunday. The long-hitting American surrendered a big lead on the back nine before securing a one-stroke victory over Englishman Tommy Fleetwood at Club de Golf Chapultepec. Johnson finished at 14-under 270 for his second consecutive victory, after winning the Genesis Open two weeks ago. That five-stroke victory at Riviera in California vaulted Johnson to the number one world ranking for the first time.

Basketball, NBA: Stephen Curry rediscovered his scoring touch with a haul of 31 points as the Golden State Warriors beat the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. Klay Thompson added 29 points and the Warriors bounced back from consecutive defeats for the first time in nearly two years. Derrick Rose scored 28 points and Kristaps Porzingis added 24 points and 15 rebounds for the Knicks. Rugby Union: Number eight Billy Vunipola has returned to Eddie Jones’s England squad for Saturday’s Six Nations clash against Scotland after recovering from a knee injury. The 24-year-old made his first appearance since November on Sunday, playing for 71 minutes in Saracens’ 35-27 win at Newcastle in the Premiership. “I talked to Eddie this week and I said to him that, if I came through the game and I feel okay, we can talk but I’d love to be back in the mix,” Vunipola told reporters. “I don’t want to disrespect anyone by saying I’m going to walk straight in. If he wants me to play, I’m more than happy to but I’m still waiting for his call.”

Cycling: British Cycling has announced Julie Harrington as its new chief executive, replacing the recently-departed Ian Drake. Harrington said: “I am thrilled to be asked to lead British Cycling as it embarks on a new chapter in its history. This is the right time to be joining one of this country’s leading governing bodies.”
