Formula One: Mexican Formula One driver Esteban Gutierrez accepted yesterday that he would not be racing for the US-owned Haas team next year. “Dear friends, I want to share with you that I will no longer be with Haas F1 team for the next season,” the 25-year-old said. The news came after Renault’s driver Kevin Magnussen was reported to have signed a deal to join Haas.

Basket, NBA: Dwyane Wade received a rousing welcome back to Miami yesterday as he returned to the site of past glory with his new team the Chicago Bulls. Leading the Bulls to a 98-95 victory over the Heat, the 34-year-old Wade closed the book on his Heat days and the most successful chapter of his career. “It’s one of the weirdest games I’ve ever played in. Cricket: Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara hit centuries and shared a stand of 209 to lead India to 319-4 in their first innings on the third day of the opening test yesterday, trailing England by 218 runs. Local boy Pujara struck his ninth test hundred before he was out for 124 while Vijay fell in the penultimate over of the day for 126 after his seventh century. Golf: Alex Noren fired five birdies on the back nine to catapult the Swede into a two-shot lead at the halfway stage of the European Tour’s Nedbank Challenge yesterday. British Masters champion Noren, who has three tour wins in 2016, shot to the top of the leaderboard following a 67 to move to eight under par and a two-shot lead over a chasing pack of five players.
