Doping: Saudi Arabian powerlifter Mashal Alkhazai has been suspended for eight years following the second positive drugs test of his career at an out-of-competition test at the Paralympic Games in Rio. The International Paralympic Committee announced that the 36-year-old has had his accreditation withdrawn and is no longer eligible to compete in the +107kg class.

Swimming: Two men rushed the “Dancing with the Stars” stage in protest against embattled US Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte as he fielded comments from judges after his performance on the ABC dance competition show on Monday. Lochte has been embroiled in scandal after he admitted he “over-exaggerated” a tale about being robbed and held at gunpoint with three other swimmers after a party during the Rio Olympics. Lochte was standing on stage next to his partner, pro dancer Cheryl Burke, when two men ran onto the stage in protest. Security guards tackled the men and several protesters were escorted out of the audience.

American Football: San Francisco 49ers back-up quarter-back Colin Kaepernick brought his protest against racial inequality to a nationally televised Monday Night Football audience, kneeling on the field rather than standing as the national anthem played. Other players joined the African-American athlete who has ignited an uproar within the National Football League through an act of defiance he introduced during pre-season games. 49ers safety Eric Reid knelt beside Kaepernick on the sidelines on Monday. Two other team-mates, safety Antoine Bethea and line-backer Eli Harold, stood with fists raised during the anthem.
