Anti-doping: The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has reinstated credentials of a drug testing laboratory in Rio de Janeiro for the Olympic Games, ending a month-long suspension that had threatened to embarrass the host country. The decision avoided a backup scheme to send blood and urine samples from Olympic athletes to labs outside Brazil during the Games. Similar steps were taken after the same lab at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro lost its credentials for the 2014 World Cup, also held in Brazil.

Tennis: Roger Federer will kick off his 20th season as a professional at the Hopman Cup next year, returning to the international team tournament in Perth for the first time since he teamed up with his now wife Mirka in 2002. The 34-year-old Swiss will be partnered at the Perth Arena from Jan. 1-7 by compatriot Belinda Bencic, who was a year old when Federer turned professional in July, 1998. Federer and the then Miroslava Vavrinec lost two of their three group matches at the 2002 Hopman Cup, which was won by Tommy Robredo and Arantxa Sanchez Vicario for Spain.

Anniversary Games: Usain Bolt insists he is fit and ready to race ahead of his first 200 metres of the season at the Muller Anniversary Games tonight. The six-time Olympic champion faces a key test of his fitness when he races for the first time since pulling out of the Jamaican trials with a hamstring strain. “I’m good, I’m feeling good, been training good now, I’m happy with where I am,” the 29-year-old said. “My hamstring is good, I have no issue right now. I know I’m in good shape.” Bolt’s outing at the Olympic Stadium will be his last before the Rio Games, where he will bid for an unprecedented ‘triple triple’ of Olympic crowns.
