Tennis Doubles: Serena Williams put the icing on the cake of another magnificent Wimbledon campaign by teaming up with sister Venus for a sixth doubles crown at the All England Club. The sisters beat Timea Babos, of Hungary, and Kazakhstan’s Yaroslava Shvedova 6-3 6-4 on Centre Court – hours after Serena claimed a record-equalling 22nd grand slam singles title by defeating Germany’s Angelique Kerber.

Track and field: Russian long jumper Darya Klishina has been cleared to compete internationally as a neutral athlete after a successful appeal against a blanket ban on her country’s track and field athletes for systematic doping. The IAAF banned Russia’s track and field athletes last year after a WADA report uncovered systematic state-sponsored doping within the country. Individual Russian athletes, however, could apply to the IAAF for exemptions to compete as “neutral athlete” if they could prove they were not involved in the system.

Athletics: Andre De Grasse ran his fastest 100 metres of the year to book his place at the Rio Games next month following events at the Canadian Olympic trials which were held last weekend. De Grasse, co-bronze medallist at the 2015 World Champion-ships, clocked 9.99 seconds to defeat Aaron Brown in the meeting at Edmonton, Alberta. Brown, who earlier this season ran 9.96 seconds in Florida, finished second in 10.07 seconds.

Snooker: Anthony McGill won his first ranking title by beating Kyren Wilson 5-2 in the final of the Indian Open, in Hyderabad. Recognised for several seasons as one of snooker’s rising stars, McGill has now captured his first piece of snooker silverware after a series of superb performances, winning seven matches during the tournament to land the £50,000 top prize. He started the event last week at no.29 in the world rankings and now climbs to a career high of 18th.
