Basket, NBA: The Golden State Warriors extended qualifying offers to forward Harrison Barnes and center Festus Ezeli on Wednesday, making them restricted free agents. The move, which needed to be made by yesterday, means the Warriors can now match any offer made to the pair by other teams. The Warriors, however, are expected to pursue Oklahoma City’s Kevin Durant, who could potentially take Barnes’ small forward position and force him to exit.

Swimming: Olympic 200 metres freestyle champion Yannick Agnel has sparked mirth after vowing to swim all the way around Iceland if the Nordic nation’s soccer team defy the odds and win Euro 2016. Frenchman Agnel set the world record for the 400m freestyle in 2012, but Iceland’s coastline is more than 10,000 times longer than the 200 metres swims he specialises in these days. “If the Icelanders win the Euro, I will swim a tour of Iceland,” Agnel wrote on Twitter, prompting a series of comic responses.

Athletics: World champion Vivian Cheruiyot booked her ticket to Rio Games while Olympic silver medalist Sally Kipyego became the first major scalp in the two-day Kenyan Olympic trials which kicked off yesterday. Kipyego trailed in sixth position in the women’s 10,000m, while Cheruiyot won the race in 31:36.40 after virtually running alone for eight laps with Betsy Saina in second (32:04.66) and Gladys Chepsir third in 32:17.13. Cheruiyot, popularly known as the ‘Pocket Rocket’, will go for the 5,000m today. She won bronze in 10,000m in London four years ago and silver in 5,000m.
