Cricket: England’s 2-0 Investec Test series victory over Sri Lanka has put them within striking distance of their next opponents Pakistan in the International Cricket Council rankings. Alastair Cook’s team, who will hold all eight bilateral trophies if they manage to beat Pakistan in a four-Test series beginning at Lord’s on July 14, have further incentive after moving up to within three ranking points of their third-placed visitors.

Athletics: US hammer thrower Gwen Berry has been stripped of her pending American record and suspended for three months for using a prohibited medication, the US Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) said. Berry, the favourite to win next month’s US Olympic trials, was suspended because she declared in March the use of an inhaler containing the banned substance Vilanterol Trifenatate. Although she subsequently tested negative for the substance at the US Indoor Championships, a declared or admitted use of a prohibited substance constitutes an anti-doping violation.
