Rugby Union: Wales head coach Warren Gatland has named a 35-man squad to face England at Twickenham later this month and world champions New Zealand in June. Sam Warburton will lead an experienced group, with Wales facing England at Twickenham on May 29 before next month tackling the All Blacks in Auckland, Wellington and Dunedin, in addition to a midweek game against the Hamilton-based Chiefs. Toulon full-back Leigh Halfpenny, who has not played for Wales since September after suffering a knee injury, is among the absentees, together with wing Alex Cuthbert and flanker Justin Tipuric, who are both currently sidelined.

Olympics: With less than three months to go until the start of the games, work on parts of Rio de Janeiro’s Olympic Park and Olympic Village was halted yesterday amid fears for the safety of workers, Brazil’s Ministry of Labour and Employment said. Officials who reviewed work on a television tower in the Olympic park and digging work at the Olympic village shut down operations at those and two other sites. “We have no intention of hampering the event,” Robson Leite, the ministry’s regional superintendent, told reporters. “We just want the safety of the population, the workers and all those who will visit Rio.” The Olympic Park, where 16 sports will take place at nine venues, was declared open last month but final touches to the tennis courts and sponsors’ areas are still being made. The 2016 Olympic Games open on August 5.

Basket, NBA: Stephen Curry scored 17 of his 40 points in overtime as Golden State Warriors rallied for a 132-125 victory over Portland Trail Blazers at the Moda Centre. The Warriors grabbed a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven Western Conference semi-final series. Curry, coming back after missing the previous four games with a sprained right knee, came off the bench to score 27 of his points in the fourth quarter and extra session. Curry also had nine rebounds and eight assists. The Warriors trailed 16-2 before the reigning league MVP came off the bench midway through the first quarter.
