Sailing: The finale of the Volvo Ocean Race 2017-18, will be held in The Hague, Tom Touber, the race’s outgoing Dutch Chief Operating Officer, told a news conference yesterday. The event, launched 42 years ago as the Whitbread Round the World Race, is commonly regarded as ocean racing’s toughest challenge. The last race, which covered 38,739 nautical miles and visited every continent, took nine months to complete and finished in June. The next one is scheduled to start from Alicante in 2017.

Doping: Australian boxer Lucas “Big Daddy” Browne protested his innocence and said he was “devastated” yesterday after failing a doping test in wake of his victory in a world title fight two weeks ago. The 36-year-old former bouncer won the “regular” version of the WBA heavyweight title when he knocked out Russian Ruslan Chagaev in Chechnya on March 5. “I would like to assure all my fans, the whole of the boxing world and all of Australia that I’m not a drug user or a drug cheat,” Browne (24-0-0) said. “The news of this positive test has shocked and devastated me and I’ll be fighting for as long as it takes to clear my name.”

Athletics: Six-times Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt will run in the London Anniversary Games ahead of his multiple title defence at the Rio Olympics in August. The Jamaican world record holder in the 100 and 200 metres will participate in the IAAF Diamond League meeting on July 22 at Queen Elizabeth Park in London. “The London Anniversary Games will be one of my last races before the Olympic Games in Rio,” Bolt said in a statement. “It will be good to return to the Olympic Stadium on the Friday night and get more of the special atmosphere that the fans always produce,” the 29-year-old sprinter added.
