Tennis: Seven-times grand slam singles champion Justine Henin (picture) headlined the International Tennis Hall of Fame’s list of inductees for the Class of 2016 announced yesterday. Joining the Belgian in the ‘recent player’ category is Russian Marat Safin. The two former world number ones are the first from their countries to gain Hall of Fame election. Henin won 43 singles titles during her career, including four French, two US and one Australian Open. Safin counts two grand slams among his 15 singles titles. He held the world number one ranking for nine weeks and was an integral member of Russia’s Davis Cup team.

Swimming: South Korean prosecutors made three more arrests as part of their investigation into corruption allegations at the country’s swimming federation (KSF) yesterday and said they would announce the findings of their probe later this week. Yonhap news agency reported that prosecutors had arrested three coaches and KSF board members on suspicion of embezzling hundreds of thousands of dollars, with 1.8 billion won ($1.49 million) alone withdrawn from cash machines at casinos.

Basketball, NBA: The Golden State Warriors broke the NBA record for consecutive home-court victories Monday night, getting a combined 68 points from backcourt mates Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson in a 119-113 win over the Orlando Magic. The Warriors’ 27th straight win at Oracle Arena this season was their 45th in a row at home dating back to January 2015, allowing them to surpass the previous record of 44, set by the Chicago Bulls from March 30, 1995, to April 4, 1996.

Golf: Rickie Fowler made a $1 million hole-in-one for charity at an event hosted by Ernie Els in Florida on Monday. Fowler, the fifth ranked player in the world, aced the 113-yard “bonus” 19th hole to claim the prize money for the Els for Autism foundation. “Pretty cool to be able to do that for Ernie and the foundation,” Fowler told the Golf Channel.”It’s a small target. No one really expects it because it’s kind of a shot in the dark.”

Horse Racing: Global healthcare company Randox Health will become the new sponsor of the Grand National at Aintree in 2017, taking over from Crabbie’s. Crabbie’s association with the world’s greatest steeplechase comes to an end next month in what will be the third running under its banner. A five-year deal has been agreed with Randox Health, to include all three days of the National Festival.

Hockey: Germany will return to the scene of their Olympic triumph four years ago as they prepare for this year’s Rio Games at the Champions Trophy in London in June. The International Hockey Federation (FIH) confirmed on Tuesday that the week-long tournament, originally scheduled for Argentina, will be held at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park starting on June 10. Germany’s men, who will be bidding for a hat-trick of Olympic titles in August having also won gold in Beijing, will be joined by Australia, Belgium, Britain, India and South Korea.
