Back-up centre Cole Aldrich scored 19 points, sparking the Clippers to their 10th consecutive victory. Jordan’s absence was a surprise before the game when it was revealed he had pneumonia. His withdrawal ended Jordan’s NBA-leading consecutive games streak at 360.

Alpine Skiing: US Olympic gold medallist skier Picabo Street was charged with assault and domestic violence after an alleged altercation with her father. Street told police that during a fight last month she pushed her father down the stairs and locked him in the basement. Reports said the 44-year-old former Olympian’s three children witnessed the incident.

Formula One: Volkswagen motorsport director Jost Capito has been appointed chief executive of McLaren Racing as the Honda-powered Formula One team seek to rejoin the frontrunners after their worst ever season. The 57-year-old German replaces Jonathan Neale who has been handed a wider remit as chief operating officer of the parent McLaren Technology Group.

Tennis: A violent thunderstorm prevented any of the scheduled singles matches from being completed on women’s semi-final and men’s quarter-finals day at the Sydney International yesterday. Simona Halep’s hopes of getting a good workout before the year’s opening grand slam were stymied by the weather. The Romanian was leading 5-4 in the opening set against Svetlana Kuznetsova, when rain stopped play for the second and final time for the day.
