Athletics: Kenya’s government met athletes to discuss their grievances yesterday, as runners occupied the athletics federation building for a second day, protesting against corruption and doping allegations engulfing their sport at home and abroad. The Commissioner for Sports, Gordon Oluoch, said he would try and resolve their complaints, but did not commit himself to any specific action, and criticised the protesters for resorting to “the laws of the jungle”.

Motorcycling: Retired twice MotoGP world champion Casey Stoner will be a test rider for Ducati next season, the Italian manufacturer said yesterday. The Australian rider, who left the sport at the end of 2012, won his first MotoGP title with Ducati in 2007 before moving to Honda and taking his second championship in 2011. Ducati have not won a grand prix since he left. Stoner returned to racing with Honda in this year’s Suzuka eight hours endurance race but crashed when his bike’s throttle jammed.

Basketball: LeBron James joined an exclusive NBA list and Kevin Love finished with a season-high 35 points as Cleveland Cavaliers beat Orlando Magic 117-103 to make it eight home wins from eight. James’s 15 points and 13 assists saw him become only the second player in league history – after Oscar Robertson – to rank in the top 25 in both lists. It was a good night all round for the Eastern Conference-leading Cavaliers, who never looked back after Love’s 27 points, all notched in the first half.
