Athletics: Spanish runner Marta Dominguez (picture, right) has been stripped of her 2009 world steeplechase title after being found guilty of an anti-doping violation. The 40-year-old, who has also been handed a three-year ban, was accused of doping in 2013 after blood abnormalities. The Spanish athletics federation cleared Dominguez one year later, but that decision has been reversed on appeal by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Dominguez said her readings were caused by a medical condition, but CAS dismissed her claims. Her results between August 5, 2009 and July 8, 2013 have been disqualified.

Davis Cup: Great Britain’s first-round Davis Cup tie against Japan in March will be played at Birmingham’s Barclaycard Arena. The tie will be held from March 4-6, and Britain will hope it is their first as defending champions ahead of next weekend’s final against Belgium. Andy Murray has previously said he hopes to play whatever the outcome in Ghent, with it likely to mark his return to tennis following the birth of his first child. Should Murray play, there is the exciting prospect of a clash with world number eight and last year’s US Open finalist Kei Nishikori.

Motor racing: Williams have dropped plans to appeal against Brazilian Felipe Massa’s exclusion from his home grand prix last weekend for an overheated rear tyre. The Formula One team said that, despite still not agreeing with the exclusion and believing there was enough evidence for them to successfully appeal, they had decided against doing so to avoid disruption and extra expense. Williams have finished third overall for the second year in a row, with one race remaining in Abu Dhabi next week. Massa, whose last Grand Prix win was at Interlagos in 2008, had finished in eighth place on Sunday.

Basketball: A stirring second-half comeback gave Strasbourg a 78-75 home win over Red Star Belgrade. Fans in Strasbourg’s Rhenus Sport Arena sang the Marseillaise in an emotional atmosphere after the home side, playing the first Euroleague game in France since the Paris attacks, fought back from a 20-point deficit to stay in contention for a Top 16 berth. Trailing 52-32 late in the first half, Strasbourg turned the match on its head with ironclad defence, limiting Red Star to just 21 points in the second period.

Rugby Union: The family of Jonah Lomu have agreed to a public memorial service for the All Blacks great followed by a private funeral as rugby-mad New Zealand mourns the death of the 40-year-old. Lomu died on Wednesday from a cardiac arrest brought about by a debilitating kidney disease he had battled for 20 years, his former New Zealand coach John Hart, acting as the family spokesman, told reporters in Auckland. Local media reported that Auckland’s Eden Park was being considered for the public memorial service.
