Golf: New Zealand teenager Lydia Ko has become the youngest winner of the LPGA’s rookie of the year award in a season in which she has won twice, secured two runner-up finishes and nine other top-10s. The 17-year-old already owns records as the youngest LPGA title winner and the youngest player to win a $1 million in prize money. “It’s really been a dream rookie season for me,” Ko said. “It’s an honour to have my name now etched alongside such amazing players and legends of the game on the list of Rookie of the Year winners.”

Rugby Union: Italy’s match against Argentina in Genoa has been brought forward from tomorrow to today (kick-off: 17:15) because bad weather is expected in the Liguria region, the Italian federation announced yesterday. Further heavy thunderstorms are forecast in the wake of the flash flooding that has been affecting northern Italy, causing a number of deaths. Italy began their November Test series by beating Samoa 24-13 last Saturday. After meeting Argentina, they play South Africa in Padua next weekend.

Cricket: Former South Africa coach Gary Kirsten has been recalled to help the Proteas prepare for next year’s World Cup and will act as a batting coach and mentor in the upcoming one-day series in Australia. The 46-year-old guided India to their World Cup triumph on home soil in 2011 and took South Africa to the top of the world test rankings in two years as coach before stepping down in August 2013. He was replaced by his number two Russell Domingo, who he will now in turn assist in the first four matches of the ODI series starting in Perth today.
