Rugby Union: New Zealand flyhalf Daniel Carter is expected to return to the match day squad for their clash with Scotland on Saturday as he continues to work his way back from a broken leg. Carter was the highest profile water boy in world rugby last Saturday when the All Blacks beat England 24-21 at Twickenham. The 32-year-old missed out on a place in the squad. Carter has barely played this year after taking a six-month sabbatical and breaking his leg in the Super Rugby final in August. He came off the bench for 30 minutes against the United States earlier this month but he will get more playing time in the next two matches against Scotland on Saturday and Wales on November 22.

Basket, NBA: Dirk Nowitzki became the highest-scoring non-US born player in the National Basketball Association this week, passing Hakeem Olajuwon with a 23-point performance as Dallas Mavericks beat Sacramento Kings 106-98. The 7-foot (2.13 metres) German finished the game with 26,953 career points, also moving to ninth on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. Nigeria-born Olajuwon compiled 26,946 points over an 18-year career. Nowitzki’s performance came as the Mavericks rallied from a 24-point deficit to beat the Kings. The 36-year-old has been a top player in an era when a flood of international talent has joined the ranks of a league traditionally dominated by American players.

Motor Racing: Marcus Ericsson has terminated all his agreements with the troubled Formula One team Caterham with immediate effect, the Swedish driver said in a statement yesterday. Ericsson, who will miss the season-finale in Abu Dhabi should Caterham take part, has already agreed a deal to drive for Sauber next season alongside Brazilian Felipe Nasr. He made his F1 debut with the team this season. Caterham, who have not scored a point since their debut in 2010, went into administration last month but said this week they had raised more than one million pounds in 48 hours and attracted a new potential buyer.
