Snooker: World number one Neil Robertson and Mark Selby were engaged in a gripping world championship semi-final and their second session came with a wicked late twist yesterday. Having looked like remaining close all the way through to this evening’s scheduled final session, Selby pulled away from 7-6 and appeared certain to seize an overnight 10-6 advantage. But having reached 53 on a brisk visit in the 16th frame, Selby missed an easy black and the Australian rifled in a break of 61 that meant he halved the session and will resume today just 9-7 adrift.

Other semi-final result: O’Sullivan bt Hawkins 17-7.

Golf: Two days after acquiring the iconic British Open venue Turnberry, American billionaire Donald Trump was awarded his first major with the announcement of the site of the 2022 PGA Championship. The last of the year’s four majors, the PGA Championship will be staged at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey in 2022.

Horse Racing: The post positions for today’s 140th Kentucky Derby have been changed for the second time in two days after connections of Pablo Del Monte scratched their horse from the race yesterday. The colt had only been added to the field when Hoppertunity, second favourite who had drawn barrier 11, was withdrawn on Thursday because of a foot injury. As the first alternate, Pablo Del Monte was allocated post 20 forcing all the horses drawn from 12 to 20 to move in one spot. But when Pablo Del Monte was scratched yesterday stewards made another reshuffle.

MotoGP: Aleix Espargaro recorded the fastest time during yesterday’s practice sessions ahead of the Spanish MotoGP at Jerez. The Spaniard, of NGM Forward Racing, clocked a best lap of one minute 39.357 seconds in the morning session. Honda’s world champion Marc Marquez served notice of his intentions, however, with the afternoon best of 1:39.757.
