Olympics: The South Korean Olympic Committee (KOC) will file an official complaint to the International Skating Union about the figure skating judging panel used at the Sochi Games which deemed Kim Yuna’s routine only worthy of a silver medal. Kim had arrived in Russia for the February Games as the hot favourite to successfully defend the title, but despite completing a faultless final routine she was left with only a silver as home favourite Adelina Sotnikova took a shock gold.

Tennis: Finland’s Jarkko Nieminen claimed the fastest ever ATP Tour win by crushing Australian Bernard Tomic 6-0 6-1 in 28 minutes and 20 seconds to advance to the second round of the Sony Open. World number 74 Tomic had not played since retiring injured against Rafa Nadal in the Australian Open first round in January and won just 13 points in the shortest match since the Tour began keeping official records in 1991. Nieminen’s win eclipsed the 1996 record set by Greg Rusedski who defeated Carsten Arriens 6-0 6-0 at the Sydney International in 29 minutes.

Boxing: Sheffield super-bantamweight Kid Galahad hopes to move into the world title reckoning by claiming the vacant European crown at the expense of Spaniard Sergio Prado in Sheffield tonight. The 24-year-old knows an impressive performance could help him force a fight with either Scott Quigg or Carl Frampton in what could be an enticing domestic showdown. Galahad has won all 15 of his professional fights but struggled to impress last time out when he stopped Liverpool opponent James Dickens in the 10th round of their bout in Rotherham.

Basket, NBA: Kevin Durant led the way as Oklahoma City Thunder closed to within a game and a half of San Antonio Spurs at the NBA Western Conference summit. With Russell Westbrook rested as he continues his patient recovery from knee surgery, Durant was the focal point for OKC and proved as dynamic as ever. The small forward had 35 points, 11 rebounds and six assists – the 33rd successive game he has scored 25 points or more, a streak unmatched by any NBA player since the great Michael Jordan.
