Shooting: London Olympian Elena Allen will head a 14-strong Welsh shooting squad for next year’s Commonwealth Games. Allen, who also won skeet bronze in the 2013 World Championships in Lima, will be joined at the Games by husband Malcolm Allen, with whom she teamed up to win the Commonwealth Championships in 2010.

Rugby Union: Wales coach Warren Gatland has extended his contract for another four years, taking him through until after the 2019 Rugby World Cup. The 50-year-old New Zealander has been in the role since November 2007, helping Wales to three Six Nations titles and grand slams in 2008 and 2012. He also led them to the semi-finals of the 2011 Rugby World Cup and earlier this year coached the British and Irish Lions to a series victory over Australia.

Basketball: The mansion belonging to US basketball star Michael Jordan did not attract a winning bid at an auction this week. The 56,000-square-foot home in the northern Chicago suburb of Highland Park has a basketball court, a putting green, tennis court and nine bedrooms. Jordan said that while he still had business interests in Chicago, where he was a star with Chicago Bulls, he didn’t need such a large house there now that his children are grown.

Boxing: Vitaly Klitschko has vacated his WBC belt but was named champion emeritus, leaving the door open for the leading Ukraine politician to one day return to the ring. Klitschko, the ruling World Boxing Council champion, is unlikely to box again as he joins thousands of protesters in weeks-long de-monstrations against the government in Kiev.
