Snooker: Mark Selby sealed his place in the semi-finals of snooker’s Champion of Champions event by winning group one. The event at Coventry’s Ricoh Arena follows an unusual format, with four groups of four each contesting semi-finals and a final, before the tournament semis on Saturday and final on Sunday. Selby knocked in three centuries in a strong display to beat Stephen Maguire in the Tuesday night’s decider. Selby beat Shaun Murphy 4-2 in the first semi-final. Maguire came from behind three times to beat fellow Scotsman John Higgins 4-3 in his semi-final.

Golf: Progress on the troubled golf course hosting the sport’s return to the Olympics at the 2016 Rio Games is “reasonably good”, PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem said. Construction at the Venue Reserva de Marapendi course, being controversially built in an environmental reservation, was held up for months by legal wrangling over land ownership. “I was told that the irrigation system for the golf course had been boarded on a ship in Los Angeles that was headed for the Panama Canal,” Finchem told reporters at Royal Melbourne golf club in the lead-up to the World Cup of Golf.

Alpine Skiing: Olympic downhill champion Lindsey Vonn crashed during training at the US Ski Team Speed Centre at Copper Mountain on Tuesday, one week before her scheduled return to racing following knee surgery. US Ski Team spokesman Tom Kelly said Vonn was not admitted to hospital and was being evaluated in nearby Vail, Colorado, by the same doctor who repaired her right knee in February. “We expect to have clarity on the situation in the next 24 hours,” Kelly told Reuters in an e-mail without providing any other details. Four-time overall World Cup champion Vonn was due to begin official downhill training for next week’s World Cup races scheduled at Beaver Creek.
