America's Cup: A blunder on Tuesday that led to a commanding victory for Emirates Team Zealand and prom-pted Oracle Team USA to call an unusual time-out in the 34th America’s Cup regatta might have cost sailor John Kostecki his job. The 49-year-old American was nowhere to be seen when software magnate Larry Ellison’s team got back on its 72-foot catamaran for a practice run on Wednesday after Tuesday’s devastating loss. Ben Ainslie, who has been at the helm of Oracle’s second yacht during training, took his place with reports suggesting he would replace Kostecki as the tactician when Oracle again faced Team New Zealand for two races last night.

Cricket: The Western Australia Cricket Association (WACA) has slam-med Cricket Australia’s “devastating” decision to overlook Perth as a host venue for the test series against India in 2014-15. Perth’s WACA ground will not host a match in Australia’s summer of cricket for the first time since 1976-77, with the four tests to be played in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Adelaide. “Whilst CA will provide additional limited-overs mat-ches to replace the test match, there is no compensation for losing a test,” WACA chief executive Christina Matthews said in a statement.

MotoGP: Yamaha have renewed a contract with the France-based Tech3 MotoGP team until the end of 2015, the Japanese manufacturer said. The agreement will see Tech3 continue to use prototype Yamaha YZR-M1 bikes. Tech3 have Britain’s Bradley Smith and Spain’s Pol Espargaro riding for them in the top category next season. British rider Cal Crutchlow, who will be switching to Ducati next year, has notched up four podium finishes and two pole positions so far this year for Tech3.
