Tennis: Dominika Cibulkova avenged an embarrassing defeat to Agnieszka Radwanska by overhauling the top-seeded Pole 3-6 6-4 6-4 to win the Bank of the West Classic on Sunday. Earlier this year in the Sydney final, Radwanska handed the Slovakian a humiliating 6-0 6-0 loss which Cibulkova said affected her for weeks. But in Sunday’s final, Cibulkova shook off her nerves by winning the first game and fought tooth and nail to seal the win in two-and-a-half hours.
Diving: Qiu Bo recovered from a shaky start to secure a second straight 10-metre platform gold at the World Championships in Barcelona as dominant China ended the diving competition with nine titles out of 10 contested. Lying equal fifth, Qiu produced a pair of stunning efforts on the third and fourth of his six dives to amass a whopping 581.00 points, comfortably beating David Boudia, of the US, into second on 517.40.
Golf: Brandt Snedeker will use some of the $1 million purse from his Canadian Open win on Sunday to buy Hunter Mahan’s new baby daughter Zoe a gift after his rival surrendered a shot at a big payday to return home for her birth. “Zoe will be getting a very nice baby gift from me,” said Snedeker after his three-shot victory at Glen Abbey Golf Club. “I can’t thank Kandi (Mahan) enough for going into labour early, otherwise I don’t know if I’d be sitting here.”
Tennis: American John Isner saved two match points before beating South Africa’s Kevin Anderson 6-7 7-6 7-6 in the final of the Atlanta Open on Sunday to claim his seventh ATP career title. The towering Isner, who stands six-foot-10 (2.08m), fired down 24 aces in a match dominated by big serving from two of the tallest players in tennis. Neither player was able to break their opponent’s serve in the slugfest, which lasted almost three hours, with each set decided by tiebreakers.
