Rugby Union: Uncapped Wasps back Elliot Daly has been called into a star-studded Barbarians squad to face England and the British and Irish Lions. The Barbarians have also confirmed that South Africa hooker Schalk Brits, Exeter’s Australian lock Dean Mumm, Italian prop Andrea Lo Cicero and Fijian wing Timoci Nagusa will line up for them this summer.

Giro d’Italia: Lithuanian Ramunas Navardauskas claimed a solo victory on the summit finish of stage 11 at the Giro d’Italia yesterday while Italian Vincenzo Nibali retained the overall lead. The Garmin-Sharp rider shook off his closest pursuer, Italian Daniel Oss, to go clear five km from the finish line at Vajont. Oss finished in second place, just over a minute back, with Italian Stefano Pirazzi third. Nibali, of Astana, remains the overall leader, finishing safely in the main pack of contenders about five minutes back, with Australia’s Cadel Evans in second spot and Colombia’s Rigoberto Uran third.

Athletics: Peter Eriksson has resigned as head coach of British Athletics after seven months in the job and will return to Canada for personal reasons. Eriksson was appointed on a five-year deal in October to replace Dutchman Charles van Commenee but asked to be released from his contract in order to return to Canada to be with his family. Eriksson will continue as head coach until the end of June, overseeing the European Team Championships in Gateshead.

Golf: The European Tour will visit Denmark for the first time in more than a decade next year when the inaugural Made in Denmark is held at the Himmerland Golf & Spa Resort from August 14-17. The tournament will be played at the North Jutland venue from 2014-2016 and will carry a prize fund of €1.5 million, with €270,000 to the winner. Ian Poulter was triumphant the only previous time the European Tour staged a tournament in Denmark in 2003.
