Rugby Union: Former England flyhalf Jonny Wilkinson has extended his contract with Toulon by one year, the French Top 14 club said yesterday . “The English flyhalf has just signed a one-year contract extension,” Toulon said in a statement. Wilkinson, 33, had made his desire to extend his contract last month after pon-dering retirement.

Athletics: Jessica Ennis is to compete at the Anniversary Games at the Olym-pic Park on July 26-28. All five UK track and field medal winners at London 2012 – including Mo Farah and Greg Rutherford – and 14 of the 16 Paralympic medallists have been confirmed for the IAAF Diamond League and IPC Inter-national Challenge events.

Golf: Chinese teenager Guan Tianlang, fresh off his Masters debut at the record-setting age of 14, accepted a sponsor’s exemption to next week’s Zurich Classic in New Orleans, tournament organisers said. Guan, who had qualified for the Masters as the Asia-Pacific Amateur champion, earned low amateur honours at the year’s first major after a 73-75-77-75 set of rounds left him with 12-over 300 total.

Baseball: Soccer has a difficult task to match the popularity of baseball in the Dominican Republic, according to FIFA president Sepp Blatter. “We know there is another sport (baseball) in this country that is more important than football and this is a challenge for football,” he said. Blatter is on a week-long tour of the Caribbean and Central America. Baseball is hugely popular in the Dominican Republic especially after they won the World Classic in San Francisco last month.

Boxing: India’s boxing pin-up boy Vijender Singh, who had been accused of taking heroin, has been cleared in an out-of-com-petition drug test, the country’s sports ministry said yesterday. Singh, who won a middleweight bronze at the 2008 Beijing Olym-pics, was ordered by the ministry to take a test after local police accused him of using heroin on several occasions.
