Rugby League: Malta dual rugby league and rugby union international Jarrod Sammut (picture) continued his fascinating form in the English Super League last weekend when he crossed for four tries in his team’s 46-20 win over the London Broncos at Wycombe. Sammut made it over the white chalk four times and added another seven goals for a 30-point haul to see his Bradford Bulls maintain their promising start to the 2013 Super League campaign.

Formula One: Richard Branson will take to the skies as an airline stewardess on a charity flight next month to fulfil a bet with aviation rival Tony Fernandes over the fortunes of their teams in the 2010 F1 season. AirAsia chief Fernandes bet the British entrepreneur that his Lotus team would do better in their debut season than Virgin Racing team with the loser dressing up as an female flight attendant. Lotus F1 finished 10th in the con-structors’ championship to Virgin’s 12th and so on May 12, Branson - “complete with make-up, a pair of high heels and freshly shaved legs” – will join the AirAsia X crew on a flight from Perth to Kula Lumpur.

Horse Racing: Australian champion Black Caviar’s bid for a 25th successive win could be put on hold if there is more torrential rain in Sydney this week. The six-year-old mare is scheduled to race in the T.J. Smith Stakes at Randwick on Saturday but trainer Peter Moody has reiterated his stance that ‘The Wonder from Down Under’ would not run on a heavy track. “I wouldn’t be that keen to see her on a wet track,” he said . “I’m going there all week for the (yearling) sales, so will know how the weat-her is and if the track is improving.”

Golf: Scotland’s Martin Laird outdueled Rory McIlroy with a final-round 63 to win the Texas Open by two shots over the world number two on Sunday. Laird started the day five shots behind leader Billy Horschel but vaulted into the mix with five birdies on his front nine. He added four more on the back to complete the bogey-free round in nine-under and end the tournament at 14-under 274. The victory brought Laird his first win on the PGA Tour in over two years and earned him an invitation to this week’s Masters.
