Table Tennis: Chinese table tennis players will pair up with international rivals for the first time at this week’s Korea Open in a bid to improve competition and boost the sport’s global growth. China have won 24 of the 28 gold medals at the Olympics since the sport was introduced at the 1988 Games, sweeping all four titles at the last two Olympics in London and Beijing. The Korea Open would feature Chinese players partnering up with rivals from other countries in the men’s doubles, the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) said.

Basketball, NBA: Carmelo Anthony’s stunning 50-point performance led the New York Knicks to a 102-90 win over defending NBA champions Miami on Tuesday, extending their winning streak to nine games. The Heat, already having sealed top spot in the Eastern Conference, were without LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Mario Chalmers, all sitting out with minor injuries. But a third win from four games against Miami this season is a major psychological boost for the Knicks, who could come up against the Heat in the play-offs.

Cricket: New Zealand batsman Jesse Ryder has been released from Christchurch Hospital six days after he was attacked outside a bar. The 28-year-old was admitted to hospital in the early hours of Thursday morning and placed in an induced coma for two days after suffering multiple injuries, including a fractured skull. Ryder released a statement on Sunday saying he was “heaps better” and his manager Aaron Klee revealed that he had returned to his Wellington home yesterday. “Jesse’s returned home to Wellington this evening, the hospital released him this afternoon, he's improved to a stage where he’s been discharged,” Klee said.
