Basketball, NBA: It would have been the biggest upset of the NBA season. However, the defending NBA champion Miami Heat had other ideas. MVP candidate LeBron James took over in the fourth quarter, leading the Heat to a 98-95 victory over the upset-minded Cavs on Wednesday. The Heat (53-14) extended their winning streak to 24 games in a row. Miami haven’t lost since Feb. 1. James recorded his fourth triple-double of the season with 25 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists, all game highs.

Rugby union: Wallabies captain James Horwill will finally return to the pitch for the Queensland Reds in Super Rugby this weekend after a frustrating 10 months out injured. In a major boost to Australia before the tour of the British and Irish Lions in June and July, the lock will skipper the 2011 Super Rugby champions against South Africa’s Bulls at Lang Park in Brisbane tomorrow.

Athletics: Two Kenyan marathon runners have been suspended after positive tests for banned substances following suspensions for three other marathoners from the east African nation last month. Athletics Kenya secretary general David Okeyo said that Salome Jerono Biwott and Jynocel Basweti Onyancha had both been suspended for two years. Last month, marathon runners Wilson Erupe Loyanae and Nixon Kiplagat Cherutich were banned for two years.

Golf: Luke Donald’s Malaysian Open debut got off to a feeble start yesterday with the world no. 3, the biggest name in the $2.75 million European Tour event, carding an opening round two-over-par 74 in Kuala Lumpur. Big-hitting Thai Kiradech Aphibarnrat sank four birdies on each nine for a seven-under-par 65 to grab the lead before lightning forced an early end to play.
