Tennis: Li Na cruised into the final of the Shenzhen Open with a straight sets win in her semi-final yes-terday, putting her on course for her seventh WTA singles title. The world no.7 is favourite to take the trophy on home soil today when she plays Czech Klara Zako-palova, who is ranked 21 places below her. The Chinese top seed beat compatriot Peng Shuai 6-4, 6-0 to set up the final with Zaka-palova, who earlier beat Monica Niculescu, of Romania.

Badminton: Indonesia will offer badminton players higher pay packages to encourage better performances but the incentive will come with a clamp down on discipline at the national training centre. Gita Wirjawan, the newly appointed president of the Indonesian Badmin-ton Association (PBSI), has promised sweeping changes in how the sport will be run in the country. Previously, the PBSI would divide 50 per cent of sponsorship money among players but now they stood to earn more.

Formula One: Sauber’s challenger for 2013 will be unveiled on February 2. The Swiss team will take the covers off the new C32 at their Hinwil base. Sauber scored four podium finishes in a successful 2012, but have an overhauled driver line-up for the coming year after losing Sergio Perez to McLaren and releasing Kamui Kobayashi. The team will instead run with Nico Hulkenberg alongside Mexican Esteban Gutierrez. Sauber are the third team to confirm the launch date of their 2013 car, following on from McLaren (January 31) and Force India (February 1).

Cycling: South African mountain biker Burry Stander has died in a road accident while on a training ride. The 25-year-old, fifth at the London Olympics, was killed in a collision with a taxi in Shelley Beach, the South African Sports Confe-deration and Olympic Committee confirmed. Stander was a two-time Olympian, having also competed in Beijing in 2008.
