Tennis: Sara Errani made it to the Wimbledon second round yesterday without even hitting the ball. Her match against Coco Vandeweghe was rained off Tuesday with the Italian on match point. Vande-weghe put her first serve into the net and did the same with her second, handing a 6-1, 6-3 victory to her opponent and leaving both players laughing as they shook hands at the net.

Athletics: Former Olympian Daniel Batman, described as the best sprinter Australia has ever seen, has been killed in a car crash aged 31. Batman died Tuesday in an accident southeast of Darwin when his car veered off the road and rolled. Detectives said they were not sure what caused the crash, but speed and alcohol could be factors. Batman had a daughter with former sprinter Nova Peris-Kneebone.

Basket, NBA: Larry Bird will resign as president of basketball operations for Indiana Pacers. A front-office shake-up for the Pacers began this week with David Morway resigning after four seasons as general manager. Reports said the departure of Bird, 55, is 100 per cent certain. Bird is the only man to be named MVP, Coach of the Year and Executive of the Year at various points in his career.

London 2012: South Korea – powered by swimmer Park Tae-Hwan – are eyeing at least 10 golds at the Olympics. South Korea have ranked in the top 10 in medal standings in six of the past seven Olympics. “At the Olympics, we aim to win 10 golds and secure a top 10 finish,” Lee Kee-Heung, head of South Korea’s athletic delegation, said. Some 370 South Korean athletes are set to compete in 23 sports.
