Basket, NBA: Tony Parker poured in 42 points and passed out nine assists to lead San Antonio to a 107-96 home victory over Oklahoma City – the team with the best record in the NBA. Tim Duncan added 13 points for the Spurs, who improved to 13-1 at home but are now facing a nine-game road trip. Parker at least ensured they head out buoyed by a victory. With 4,477 assists he has now surpassed Avery Johnson for the Spurs club record.

Athletics: Japan-based Kenyan runner Harun Njoroge improved his personal best time by more than two minutes to win the Beppu Oita marathon yesterday. The 23-year-old Njoroge, who won the Hokkaido marathon in August, started to take the lead over Ethiopia’s Yakob Jarso shortly before the 37-kilometre point to cross the finishing line in two hours nine minutes 38 seconds. Njoroge beat his previous mark of 2:11:43 set in Oita last year.

Motor Racing: Dutchman Giedo van der Garde (picture) has been named as Caterham’s test and reserve driver for the 2012 season. The 26-year-old has spent the last three seasons competing in GP2, finishing a high of fifth last year, after winning the Formula Renault 3.5 title in 2008. Caterham have confirmed Van der Garde will participate in the pre-season tests and a number of Friday practice sessions ahead of grands prix, supplementing the work of drivers Heikki Kova-lainen and Jarno Trulli.

Cricket: Sachin Tendulkar again missed out on reaching his 100th international century when he was dismissed for two in India’s tri series one-day international with Australia at Melbourne Cricket Ground yesterday. Tendulkar has now gone without a century for 26 Test and one-day innings. His last hundred (111) was in the World Cup last March. Yesterday, he was caught by Ricky Ponting after just six balls. Australia went on to beat India by 65 runs.

Boxing: Cuba’s Yoan Pablo Hernandez has defended his IBF world cruiserweight title with a unanimous points victory over former champion Steve Cunningham in a rematch. The 27-year-old champion was taken the distance by Cunningham, 35, who lost his title to Hernandez last October in Neubrandenburg, Germany, and the US fighter was put on the canvas twice in the fourth round of the rematch.
