Basketball: LeBron James had 33 points and Chris Bosh 30 as Miami Heat rallied from a 17-point first-half deficit to beat San Antonio Spurs 120-98 yesterday. Mike Miller had 14 points off the bench for the Heat who had a dismal first half and trailed 63-49 at half-time. “Once we got back to playing defence we were able to turn the game around,” James said. “We want to protect our home court. We didn’t have a good road trip so to come home after nine days on the road is nice.”

Cricket: The Sri Lankan government has ordered a probe into the national team’s “crisis situation” after they fell to another defeat in their one-day series in South Africa. Sports Minister Mahin-dananda Aluthgamage asked the country’s cricket governing body to investigate and re-commend remedial action to end the side’s recent poor performances. South Africa defeated Sri Lanka by four runs on Tuesday to take a winning 3-0 lead in their five-match ODI series.

Cycling: Australian Will Clarke was given a hero’s reception by thousands of fans after bringing a 140 km breakaway all the way to the finish of the Tour Down Under’s second stage yesterday. Swiss rider Martin Kohler took possession of the race leader’s ochre jersey from German Andre Greipel as the chasing peloton were outdone by the determined UniSA rider.
