Cricket: England will win a $175,000 jackpot for topping the world Test rankings if they win the series against Pakistan or lose by a single match, the International Cricket Council announced yesterday. The annual award is presented to the side that finishes at the head of the ICC Test championship table on April 1. England, who rose to world number one in ICC Test rankings by beating India 4-0 in August last year, face Pakistan in a three match series in Dubai from today.

Cycling: Australian police said they were investigating allegations that cycling star Stuart O’Grady assaulted a chauffeur while on a night out with friends. O’Grady strongly denied the claims which first appeared in an Adelaide newspaper on Sunday. The report said he assaulted the chauffeur on January 10 while in a small group that was being driven from a function at Adelaide Hills winery.

Basketball, NBA: The San Antonio Spurs kept their perfect record at home intact by beating the banged-up Phoenix Suns 102-91 Sunday behind a 24 point, 11 rebound performance from Tim Duncan. Tony Parker finished with 17 points and nine assists for San Antonio, who have won three straight and all of their nine games at home this season. The Spurs are winless in four games on the road.

Golf: American Johnson Wagner recorded his third victory on the USPGA Tour Sunday by shooting a final round three-under 67 for a two-stroke win at the the $5.5 million Sony Open. “It feels incredible. I worked really hard this off season and I told everybody that I was going to win early this year. So it feels good to do it,” he said. Wagner’s victory qualifies him for the Masters tournament in April.
