Sailing: Young sailors Luke Patience and Stuart Bithell have been named as the latest members of Team GB for the London 2012 Olympics. Patience and Bithell, both aged 25, will compete in the men’s 470 Class. The pair had to see off the challenge of double Olympic silver medallist Nick Rogers to win the selection spot.

Olympics: North Korea will compete in at least seven events at this year’s summer Olympics in London including women’s football. The North will also be represented in weightlifting, the marathon, wrestling, table tennis, archery and shooting. Kang Sung-Hui, an official at the sports ministry, said qualification for other sports would continue until May and the North could also send contestants in boxing, judo and diving. The North has competed in eight summer Games and won 41 medals including 10 golds.

Rallying: The 2012 world rally championship, which starts in Monte Carlo in less than 10 days, suffered a major blow when the event lost its cash-strapped promoter. The FIA confirmed that its deal with North One Sport, whose parent company Convers Sports Initiatives went into administration at the end of last year, had been terminated. The FIA said that they were making efforts to ensure that the 13-race championship will still go ahead as scheduled.

Golf: Korean sensation Noh Seung-Yul said he has his sights set on becoming Rookie of the Year in his debut season on the USPGA tour. The 2010 Asian Tour number one earned his PGA card through qualifying school at the end of last year, handing him the chance to play against many of the world’s leading golfers. “I have been dreaming of playing on PGA Tour since I was so young. And this year I am starting my dream,” Noh, 20, said.

Dakar Rally: Spain’s defending Dakar motorcycling champion Marc Coma regained the overall lead in his thrilling duel with France's three-time winner Cyril Despres yesterday after winning the eighth stage. Coma’s compatriot Nani Roma completed a great day for Spain by winning his second stage of the race in the car section in his Mini though French Dakar legend Stephane Peterhansel retained the overall lead.
