Ronaldo: Cristiano Ronaldo said he was “happy and honoured” at having Madeira Airport named in his honour – but the Real Madrid star has found himself upstaged by his statue. The Aeroporto da Madeira in Ronaldo’s home town of Funchal was named after the Portugal international in a ceremony yesterday, with a bronze bust of the 32-year-old unveiled. But the questionable likeness of the statue has been mocked on social media, with it being compared to The Head from BBC children’s TV programme Art Attack.

Sponsorship: Vauxhall will end a seven-year sponsorship deal with England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland when its current agreement expires after the 2018 World Cup. The car manufacturer has been the leading partner of the Home Nations since 2011 but revealed in a statement issued to Press Association Sport that all four links will be severed next year.

Lamela: Tottenham Hotspur’s attacking midfielder Erik Lamela will miss the rest of the season with a hip injury and is set to have surgery on Saturday to rectify the persistent problem. The 25-year-old Argentina international, who joined from Roma in 2013, has not featured since October and, with two years left on his contract, has been linked with Inter.

Man. United: Manchester United defenders Chris Smalling and Phil Jones will miss Saturday’s Premier League game against West Brom after sustaining injuries on international duty with England. Smalling and Jones join midfielder Paul Pogba and captain Wayne Rooney on the treatment table. Smalling was photographed by British media wearing a leg brace on Monday after suffering his third injury of the campaign. Jones has a toe problem.

Arda Turan: Barcelona’s Arda Turan has been ruled out for around three weeks due to a groin injury. The Turkey international is likely to miss both legs of Barca’s Champions League quarter-final with Juventus due to the adductor problem, along with at least four LaLiga matches.
