El Salvador: The former president of El Salvador’s soccer federation, who is wanted in the United States for alleged corruption, was sentenced to eight years in Salvadoran prison for labor fraud, the country’s attorney general’s office said on Monday. Reynaldo Vasquez, head of FESFUT between 2009 and 2010, was found guilty of improperly appropriating insurance discounts, provisions and union dues from 204 workers of a family-owned bed-manufacturing company between 2012 and 2014, the attorney general’s office said.

LGBT charity: Manchester United have announced a partnership with lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender charity Stonewall. In a statement released yesterday, United said the initiative will see them – the UK’s first football club to partner with Stonewall – work alongside the charity to help tackle LGBT issues in sport and society, including looking at ways inclusion and equality in the game can be improved.

English FA: The English FA will increase the number of women on its board to three by 2018 as part of a range of proposed reforms to the world’s oldest soccer federation, it said. Only one woman, Heather Rabbatts, currently sits on the board. The reforms included reducing the board from 12 members to 10 and introducing limits so that nobody serves more than three terms of three years. The FA said it also planned to add 11 new members to the FA Council “to ensure it better reflects the inclusive and diverse nature of English football”.

Camara: Almamy Kabele Camara of Guinea has been elected unopposed to the FIFA council, a week before African elections for the post were to be held, after both his rivals pulled out hours before FIFA revealed results of investigations on prospective candidates. Camara was one of three candidates for two places in the open category of the African elections. But both Danny Jordaan, president of the South African FA, and Chabur Goc Alei of South Sudan withdrew without explanation.
