Reus: Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder Marco Reus has been ruled out of their Champions League round of 16 second leg against Benfica on Wednesday after picking up a thigh injury in their 6-2 demolition of Bayer Leverkusen yesterday. Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel said Germany international Reus, who limped off just before the break, would not recover in time for the game in Dortmund on Wednesday. “This is a blow for us. Marco had been extremely consistent in the past weeks,” Tuchel said.
Nottm Forest: Nottingham Forest have appointed Frank McParland as director of football, fuelling speculation that Mark Warburton could arrive as manager in the summer. Warburton, his assistant David Weir and McParland worked together at both Brentford and Rangers before their stay at Ibrox came to an acrimonious end last month. Warburton was rumoured to have held talks with Forest before his exit from Rangers, although he denied any link with the Championship strugglers.
Red Star: Serbian champions and league leaders Red Star Belgrade were held to a 1-1 home draw by bitter city foes Partizan in the SuperLiga after they conceded a late equaliser which spoiled their 72nd anniversary yesterday. The result left 1991 European Cup winners Red Star six points clear of Partizan at the top of the standings. Both sets of fans lit dozens of flares and hurled loud firecrackers throughout the contest which was held up for several minutes in the early stages for billowing smoke at Partizan’s end.
Cavani: Edinson Cavani’s late penalty earned Paris St Germain a 1-0 home win against Nancy as the French champions put pressure on Ligue 1 rivals Monaco yesterday. Uruguay striker Cavani netted his 27th goal in 26 league appearances this season to put PSG on 62 points, behind Monaco, who host Nantes this afternoon, on goal difference. Nancy are 17th in the standings on 28 points, one point above the relegation zone.
