Austin: Southampton striker Charlie Austin is set to have an operation on a dislocated shoulder and will be sidelined for up to four months, manager Claude Puel said yesterday. Austin, Southampton’s top scorer this season with nine goals in all competitions, missed Sunday’s 1-0 Premier League win over Middlesbrough after being injured in Thursday’s 1-1 Europa League draw with Beer-Sheva.

Change of heart: The coach of Romanian champions FC Astra, Marius Sumudica, has decided not to take charge of Gaziantepspor, despite agreeing terms with the Turkish club, after seeing footage of the Istanbul bombing on Saturday. Sumudica, who led Astra to their first Romanian title in May and the Europa League’s knockout stages this season, was due to fly to Turkey late on Saturday to sign his contract but changed his mind after seeing news coverage of the bombings.

Finland: Finland have sacked coach Hans Backe after less than a year in the job. The Finnish FA declined to comment but said it would be holding a news conference today. Local broadcaster MTV reported that assistant coach Markku Kanerva would be replacing the 64-year-old Swede. The team have not won since Backe took charge in January.

B. Gladbach: Borussia Moenchengladbach finally brought an end to their winless run in the Bundesliga with a 1-0 victory over Mainz seeing them succeed for the first time in nine attempts yesterday. Andreas Christensen scored the only goal of the game – his first of the season and the first by a defender for Borussia this term – to ease some of the pressure  on Gladbach coach Andre Schubert.

Security breach: Arsenal have launched an investigation after urban climbers breached security to film themselves inside and on top of the Emirates Stadium. A climber, who calls himself DyingLlama, and his friends scaled the stadium’s walls and posted video images on Youtube showing them wandering around the stadium. The youngster then claims on the video that he and six other friends were able to breach security at West Ham’s home ground, the London Stadium, where they also wandered pitchside, in the stands and on the roof.
