Jailed: A Bulgarian court sentenced footballer Borislav Bald-zhiyski to four years in prison yesterday for murdering a man who insulted a woman for the way she parked a car the Slavia Sofia midfielder was riding in. The 25-year-old dealt the victim a fatal hit to the head in the 2013 crime but got a mild sentence after the court described it as “murder by negligence”.

Bayern: Fit-again defender Jerome Boateng and winger Arjen Robben are back in the Bayern Munich squad for today’s home Bundesliga game with Ingolstadt. The champions, however, will be without captain Philipp Lahm, Thomas Mueller and David Alaba, all out with a stomach bug. Robben has not played competitively since suffering an adductor muscle injury in March as Boateng has recovered from a muscle tear.

Deadline: FIFA gave Guatemala’s soccer federation until October 1 to avoid suspension by reinstating an oversight committee formed after the arrest of its president. A court of the Sports Confederation of Guatemala suspended the committee overseeing the Guatemalan national federation, Fedefut, after four local players said they had been wrongly accused of doping.
