Italian Super Cup: The 2016 Italian Super Cup will be played on December 23 in Doha, Qatar, media reports said. The match is normally contested between the Serie A champions and the Coppa Italia winners. As both titles were claimed by Juventus last season, their opponents will be beaten cup finalists – Milan. Qatar also hosted the 2014 Italian Super Cup, won by Napoli against Juventus after penalties.

Johansen: Sierra Leone FA president Isha Johansen has been released after authorities briefly detained her as part of a corruption investigation. The Anti-Corruption Commission arrested Johansen, one of the only women in the world to head a national football federation, and two other officials on Wednesday. “My innocence in any allegations involving corruption or related offences is undisputed,” Johansen said.

Spalletti: Roma coach Luciano Spalletti is in mourning after his parents-in-law died suddenly. Father-in-law Piero died of a heart attack on Thursday afternoon and mother-in-law Giovanna passed away that same evening. They were the parents of Spalletti’s wife Tamara and had been married for 50 years. Spalletti will lead Roma in today’s home match against Sampdoria in Serie A.

Wagner: Huddersfield manager David Wagner and Barnsley midfielder Conor Hourihane have been named as the English Championship Manager and Player of the Month for August. Terriers boss Wagner takes his award after guiding Huddersfield to the top of the Championship table, with four wins and a draw from their opening five league fixtures.

Rostov: Ivan Danilyants has been named as head coach of Champions League newcomers Rostov, the Russian club said. The 63-year-old has worked at clubs in Moldova, Austria and Russia. He joined Rostov’s coaching staff in December 2014. Rostov have qualified for the Champions League for the first time in their history. They have been drawn in Group D along with Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and PSV Eindhoven.
