Toure: Yaya Toure has been left out of Manchester City’s squad for the Champions League group stages. Although teams can name up to 25 players, eight of those must be homegrown and City’s lack of numbers in this area, following Joe Hart’s loan move to Torino, meant they could include only 21 – with Toure the odd man out.

Karius: Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius is ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation from a broken hand and set for a return to full training next week. Karius sustained the injury in a friendly match in late July and was at that point ruled out for eight to 10 weeks.

Millwall: League One side Millwall have announced the departure of chief executive officer Andy Ambler. Ambler has been with the Lions for over nine years and leaves the position to work at the English FA. Millwall chairman John Berylson said: “It is no surprise that the FA have chosen Andy to take on this important role. Under his guidance Millwall FC has enjoyed significant success both on and off the pitch.”

Delort: Mexico’s UANL Tigres have given their attack a strong French accent with the signing of Andy Delort to join forces with France striker Andre-Pierre Gignac. The 24-year-old former Wigan Athletic striker has joined last season’s Apertura champion-ship winners from Caen, where he scored 12 goals last season.

Chiriches: Romania captain Vlad Chiriches has been ruled out of his side’s opening 2018 World Cup qualifier against Montenegro with a knee injury. The Napoli centre-back, who has 43 caps, would return to his club for further treatment, the Romania football federation said yesterday.
