Simeone: Genoa have signed 21-year-old striker Giovanni Simeone, the son of former Argentina captain and current Atletico Madrid coach Diego, the Serie A club said yesterday. Simeone, who was born in Madrid when his father was playing for Atletico, was signed from Argentine club River Plate, Genoa said in a statement. Simeone was raised at River and made his professional debut there in 2013.
Racing: Racing Club have sacked coach Facundo Sava less than two weeks before the start of the Argentine league championship. Club president Victor Blanco confirmed the decision at a news conference on Wednesday, saying the board had taken it because “the objectives were not reached”. Sava had been at Racing, his first job with a major club, since the beginning of the year.
Ref punched: The owner of Colombian top flight club Boyaca Chico has been banned for one year for punching a referee after disagreeing with the official’s decisions during a game. Eduardo Pimentel, who doubles as the club’s assistant coach, was also fined 34,472,700 Colombian pesos ($11,847) following the incident in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with South American champions Atletico Nacional, the league’s disciplinary committee said.
Vada: Bordeaux midfielder Valentin Vada has signed a contract extension which ties him to the Ligue 1 side until 2021. The 20-year-old Argentinian, who arrived at the club as a teenager in 2010, has made 21 appearances for the first team and started in the opening weekend win over St Etienne.
