Lennon: Neil Lennon has been hit with a shock five-match ban by UEFA after being charged with “acts of violence against the referee”. UEFA’s control, ethics and disciplinary body has handed down the punishment in relation to his dismissal during Hibs’ 1-0 Europa League defeat by Brondby on July 14. The former Celtic and Bolton manager was sent to the stands after protesting over a disallowed goal for his side.

Karius: Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has undergone a successful operation to repair his broken right hand. The German returned home early from the club’s tour of the United States after sustaining the injury having collided with team-mate Dejan Lovren in Wednesday’s friendly against Chelsea. Karius is likely to be sidelined for eight to 10 weeks.

Sigurdsson: Gylfi Sigurdsson has signed a new four-year contract at Swansea City. The Iceland international, who had two years left on his previous contract at the Liberty Stadium, announced the deal on his personal Instagram account. “Delighted to have signed a new 4 year deal with @swansofficial. Looking forward to the new season!” Sigurdsson said.

Ben Yedder: Sevilla have signed forward Wissam Ben Yedder from Toulouse on a five-year contract. The 25-year-old scored 17 goals in 35 Ligue 1 outings as he helped Toulouse avoid relegation by one point last season but has been linked with a move away from the club all summer. Sevilla confirmed the deal on their official website, saying the attacker has signed a contract at the club until 2021 for an undisclosed fee.

Taylor: Portland Timbers have signed former Newcastle United centre half Steven Taylor. The 30-year-old Taylor made 10 Premier League appearances last season but could not help Newcastle avoid relegation from England’s top flight. Taylor was a free agent after his contract expired at Newcastle, who were relegated to the Championship.

Rahman: Chelsea defender Baba Rahman has completed his switch to German side Schalke on a season-long loan. The 22-year-old Ghanaian is heading back to the Bundesliga having signed for Chelsea from Augsburg a year ago. Last season Rahman made 23 appearances for the Blues but remained second-choice left-back behind Cesar Azpilicueta.
