Gattuso: Gennaro Gattuso is no longer coach of Pisa. The former Milan midfielder was appointed as coach of the Tuscan side last season, and guided them to promotion through the play-offs. However, Gattuso decided to step down as a result of constant problems with the club’s hierarchy.

Prass: Brazil were mulling over options to replace goalkeeper Fernando Prass yesterday after injury forced the Palmeiras goalkeeper to withdraw from the country’s Olympic squad, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) said. “I worked hard to fulfil my dream of playing for Brazil but unfortunately it’s not going to happen this time,” the uncapped Prass said on Twitter.

Martin: Gillingham summer signing Lee Martin suffered a serious injury in Saturday’s pre-season friendly at Leyton Orient, causing the fixture to be abandoned. The 29-year-old midfielder sustained the suspected broken ankle in the 76th minute as he attempted to cross the ball into the box, Gillingham reported on their website. He received eight minutes of pitchside treatment, after which the managers – Gillingham boss Justin Edinburgh and Orient counterpart Andy Hessenthaler – agreed the game should end early.

Sisto: FC Midtjylland have agreed to sell international winger Pione Sisto to La Liga side Celta Vigo. Capped twice by Denmark, the Ugandan-born 21-year-old came through Midtjylland’s youth system and his efforts to help his side secure the 2015 Danish league title attracted the interest of a slew of top European clubs. “He has earned it,” Midtjylland sporting director Claus Steinlein said. “He has both a huge talent and an enormous will, desire and hunger to be a football player.”

In Scotland: Celtic have been drawn to play at home against Scottish Premiership rivals Motherwell in the second round of the Betfred League Cup. Rangers were also drawn at home as they face Peterhead, while Aberdeen will travel to Ayr United, Hearts take on St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park and Hibernian will play Queen of the South at Easter Road. The second-round ties are to be played on August 9, 10 and 11.
