Slade: Charlton have appointed Russell Slade as their new manager. The former Leyton Orient and Cardiff boss replaces Jose Riga, whose spell in charge ended after Charlton’s relegation from the Championship last season. Slade has agreed a three-year contract at The Valley.

Clarke: New Aston Villa manager Roberto Di Matteo has confirmed his backroom team with Steve Clarke arriving as his assistant. Clarke, sacked as Reading boss in December, has extensive experience in the game. He managed West Brom and worked as a number two with Chelsea, Newcastle, West Ham and Liverpool. Kevin Bond, formerly of Tottenham, Portsmouth, Newcastle, Southampton, Bournemouth and QPR, is Villa’s new first-team coach.

Navas: Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas faces surgery on his left Achilles tendon. The 29-year-old Costa Rica international will undergo an operation in Madrid on June 9 after tests in Amsterdam, yesterday. Navas first suffered with discomfort in his Achilles during the World Cup in Brazil in 2014 but aggravated the problem in the match against Valencia on May 8.

Ketsbaia: Former Newcastle midfielder Temuri Ketsbaia has returned to AEK Athens to take over as manager. The 48-year-old Georgian, who spent three years with Newcastle after signing from AEK in 1997, has signed a two-year deal to take over at Athens’ Olympic Stadium. Ketsbaia also represented Wolves and Dundee during his time in Britain.

Guardiola: New Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will face former club Bayern Munich in his first match in charge in a pre-season friendly at the Allianz Arena. The Spaniard, who left the German champions at the end of the season after winning a league and cup double, takes his new side back to his previous employers on July 20. Bayern will be managed by former Real Madrid, Milan and Chelsea coach Carlo Ancelotti.
