Pepe: Portugal defender Pepe is in the last year of his contract with Real Madrid but is keen to prove doubters wrong by signing a new deal with the Spanish club. The 33-year-old centre-back just completed his ninth campaign with Real, helping the team clinch the Champions League trophy. “I hope this is not my last year at Madrid,” Pepe said. “I have one more year left and I hope that through my performances the club will offer me one more year.”

Lazaar: Francesco Guidolin’s Swansea City are preparing a bid for Achraf Lazaar, the Palermo wing-back. According to the South Wales Evening Post, the Swans are interested in the 24-year-old Morocco international who played for Varese before joining Palermo. Last season, Lazaar scored one goal and provided one assist in 30 Serie A appearances.

Everton: Everton have ap-proached Southampton boss Ronald Koeman about becoming their new manager, Sky Sport reported yesterday. The talks have been led by majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri. Compensation is believed to be in the region of £3 million. Koeman led Southampton to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League, five positions ahead of Everton who sacked Roberto Martinez.

Candreva: Chelsea want to sign Antonio Candreva from Lazio in the off-season. Il Tempo said Chelsea are ready to “accelerate” their interest in Candreva but club supremo Claudio Lotito is not prepared to start negotiations until his asking price of €25 million is met. At present, Candreva is part of Italy’s 23-man squad for the Euro 2013.
