Stellone: Former Torino player Roberto Stellone, now coach of Serie A strugglers Frosinone, is being linked with a move to the Maroons at the end of the season. Torino are likely to part company with Giampiero Ventura following a rather poor campaign in Serie A this season. Stellone, 38, played for Torino between 2005 and 2009, scoring 16 goals in the process.

Marshall: David Marshall is out of the Scotland squad for tomorrow’s Hampden Park friendly with Denmark. The 31-year-old Cardiff keeper is suffering from pneumonia. Hull forward Shaun Maloney, who was not in either of the two squads boss Gordon Strachan named for the friendly against Czech Republic on Thursday and for the visit of the Danes, has been called up.

Sanabria: Valencia are heading the list of clubs showing interest in young striker Antonio Sanabria, currently on loan at Sporting Gijon from Roma. The 20-year-old already has five senior caps for Paraguay. Sanabria has scored 11 goals in 21 Liga games this season. According to Mundo Deportivo, Valencia are stepping up with a firm proposal to sign Sanabria. He has also been linked with Real Madrid but would get more guaranteed playing time at Valencia

Home upsets: New York City FC’s struggles at Yankee Stadium continued yesterday as they were held to a 1-1 draw by 10-man New England Revolution to extend their stuttering start to the season. New York (1-1-2) took the lead when Thomas McNamara headed in a rebound after David Villa’s shot came back off the crossbar, but the Revolution (0-1-3) drew level before half-time when Chris Tierney’s free-kick deflected in off Steven Mendoza.

Modena: Coach Hernan Crespo was sacked by Modena following Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at home to Cagliari. Modena were leading 1-0 but conceded twice in stoppage time to stay in the drop zone in the Serie B standings. Angry Modena supporters protested after the match and the tension promoted the club to fire Crespo.
