Hamburg: Hamburg SV striker Nicolai Mueller struck twice in the second half yesterday to secure a 2-0 win over third place Hertha Berlin, whose advantage over Schalke 04 was slashed to just a point. Mueller fired home with a low left-footed shot in the 58th minute as the hosts’ pressure finally paid dividends. The 28-year-old then struck again with 15 minutes remaining to seal the three points for Hamburg who moved up to 10th on 31 points.

Scottish Cup: Rangers and Celtic will meet again in the Scottish Cup semi-finals. The Glasgow clubs were drawn together in yesterday’s draw and will face up at Hampden on the weekend of April 16-17. The pair met in last season’s League Cup semi-finals when Celtic comfortably won 2-0. Dundee United will face the winners of the replay between Inverness and Hibernian in the other semi-final.

Walsall: Walsall have parted company with head coach Sean O’Driscoll following Saturday’s 3-1 home defeat by League One promotion rivals Barnsley. The defeat, which saw Walsall drop to fourth in the table on goal difference, was a sixth successive home game they had failed to win. Walsall have been among the promotion contenders for most of the season but poor from in front of their own fans has cost O’Driscoll his job.

Tudor: PAOK Salonika’s coach Igor Tudor said he would not quit despite a shock 2-1 defeat at Panthrakikos yesterday that could damage their hopes of a place in Europe. PAOK went behind to goals by Igor de Souza and Thanasis Papagoergiou after taking the lead through defender Dimitris Chatziisaias. “I will not quit, why do you think I should?” Tudor said. “The players and club have their share of the blame – everyone is responsible.”
