Pennant: The next chapter of Jermaine Pennant’s topsy-turvy career will come in Singapore after the one-time Champions League finalist penned a one-year deal with Tampines Rovers. Tampines have reportedly made Pennant the best-paid player in the S-League’s 21-year history – figures chairman Krishna Ramachandra would not confirm, only saying he was being paid a “sexy figure”.
Monreal: Left-back Nacho Monreal has extended his contract with Arsenal. The 29-year-old, linked with a return to his native Spain by British media, has made more than 80 Premier League appearances for the Gunners, including a number at centre-back. Monreal, who joined Arsenal from Spanish side Malaga in 2013, has featured in all 22 league matches this season, helping the team keep 10 clean sheets.
Stokes: Anthony Stokes has re-joined Hibernian on loan from Celtic until the end of the season. The 27-year-old striker played for the Edinburgh side between 2009 and 2010, when his tally of 24 goals in 48 matches earned him a move to Parkhead. Now Stokes has returned to Easter Road in search of first-team football, having only appeared for Celtic twice this campaign. Hibs currently sit third in the Championship, five points behind leaders Rangers.
Olympiakos: Olympiakos Piraeus’s 100 per cent start to the Greek Super League season ended late Monday with the runaway leaders held to a 1-1 draw at Cretan club Platanias after 17 successive wins. The 17 league wins in a row was a club record for Olympiakos. However, it still fell well short of Europe’s record of 29 successive domestic league victories set by Portuguese giants Benfica between 1972 and 1973.
Freuler: Atalanta have announced the signing of Swiss midfielder Remo Freuler from Lucerne. No terms of the deal for the 23-year-old were revealed by the clubs. The Swiss under-21 international came through the ranks with Grasshoppers but made only a handful of appearances before joining Lucerne, for whom he made 65 appearances and scored nine goals.
