Mesto: Defender Giandomenico Mesto yesterday left Napoli to join Panathinaikos in the Greek league. Mesto was a free agent. Panathinaikos said in a statement that the 33-year-old had tied himself to a contract until June 2017. This will be Mesto’s first experience abroad after spells at Reggina, Cremonese, Fermana, Udinese, Genoa and Napoli.

Anita out: Newcastle midfielder Vurnon Anita is out of today’s trip to Arsenal through injury. The Dutchman limped off with a hamstring problem during Monday’s 1-0 defeat at West Brom and has become the latest addition to a lengthy casualty list which also includes goalkeeper Rob Elliot, who is battling a stomach bug.

Flamini: Arsene Wenger will welcome Mathieu Flamini back into the Arsenal ranks for the Premier League visit of Newcastle today. The midfielder sat out the recent win over Bournemouth with a minor ankle problem but is now fit to return and could replace Calum Chambers alongside Aaron Ramsey for the clash with the struggling Magpies.

Zaccheroni: Alberto Zaccheroni, the former Milan and Japan coach, will be joining Beijing Guoan FC in China, reports said yesterday. He had also been linked with a move to Roma this winter but Tuttomercatoweb said he has now agreed a two-year contract with the Chinese Super League club. Last month, Luciano Spalletti was also said to be in negotiations with Beijing Guoan.

Keane: Manchester United have cut short Will Keane’s loan at Preston as they “needed an extra body” to bolster their goal-shy attack. Louis van Gaal’s side have struggled to entertain this season and have netted just 22 league goals to date.

Championship: Brighton vs Wolves 0-1; QPR vs Hull 1-2.
