Rangers: Rangers have moved early to tie up their first January signing after swooping for Doncaster Rovers’ Harry Forrester – a day before the transfer window even opens. The League One outfit have confirmed they have accepted an undisclosed fee for the 24-year-old winger, who has signed an initial six-month deal. Forrester has worked with Gers boss Mark Warburton before at both Watford and Brentford but has been allowed to leave the Keepmoat Stadium after dropping out of Rovers boss Darren Ferguson’s plans.

Johnstone: Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has signed for Preston on a one-month loan deal. Johnstone enjoyed a successful loan spell at North End last year, helping them gain promotion to the Championship, and the 22-year-old has now gone back to his home town club for a month. The goalkeeper, whose father Glenn played for Preston, is eligible to play in the club’s next game against Rotherham on tomorrow.

Dembele: Tottenham’s in-form midfielder Mousa Dembele will be out for a “few weeks” with a groin injury, according to Mauricio Pochettino. Dembele has been one of Pochettino’s star performers this season but he hobbled off before half-time during Spurs’ 2-1 win at Watford on Monday. The Belgian was struggling with an ankle problem in the lead-up to the game at Vicarage Road but sustained a separate injury to his groin and will now sit out Sunday’s visit to Everton.

Srnicek: Former Newcastle goalkeeper Pavel Srnicek’s funeral will take place in the Czech Republic on Monday. Srnicek died on Tuesday at the age of 47 after the decision was taken to switch off his life support machine. The 49-times-capped Czech Republic international had been in an induced coma since suffering a cardiac arrest while out running in his home town of Ostrava before Christmas.

Primera Liga: Villarreal vs Valencia 1-0.
